How should I prepare my home for a blower door test?

Put out all wood or coal fires completely and remove ashes from open fireplaces before our technician arrives. Plan to walk through your home with us and point out drafty areas. We need access to closets, cabinets, attics, crawl spaces and unused rooms.

What happens during the test, and how long does it take?

We close exterior openings, open interior doors and close fireplace dampers and woodstove air inlets. We prevent atmospheric fossil fuel appliances from firing during testing and restore their controls afterward. Testing can take an hour or more, depending on your home's complexity.
